The Scientist

Dr. De La Cruz-Burelo is a lifetime member of the D0 experiment at Fermilab, where he focuses on B hadron physics. He is also part of the CMS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, dedicated to discovering physics beyond the Standard Model. In 2013, he joined the Belle II experiment in Japan to further his research in B Physics, particularly in tau lepton physics.
Dr. De La Cruz Burelo earned his Doctoral degree in physics from Cinvestav in March 2005. He then served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan until June 2008, working on the ATLAS experiment at CERN. In July 2008, he became a faculty member of the Physics Department at Cinvestav.
In 2011, Dr. De La Cruz Burelo was appointed a regular member of the Mexican Academy of Science and achieved level III in the National System of Researchers (SNI III) in Mexico. He received the «Juchiman de Plata» award in Science and Technology in October 2014. He has led several grants, served as President of the Division of Particles and Fields of the Mexican Physical Society (2018-2020), and was the General Coordinator of the Mexican Network on High Energy Physics (2016-2019).
Beyond physics, Dr. De La Cruz Burelo is keen on exploring science’s societal impact. Since 2011, he has been on the Coordination Committee of Cinvestav’s transdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Science, Technology, and Society, serving as its Academic Coordinator from 2015 to 2017. His research within the program includes topics like flood hazards, the economic impact of scientific infrastructure, and network studies.
In 2022, Dr. De La Cruz Burelo was appointed Head of the Physics Department at Cinvestav.
